Quarter 1 Celebration |
Your Help Needed |
To celebrate the end of a successful first quarter of school, we will be watching "Toy Story 2" in the 1918 Auditorium. The students voted on this movie and will also enjoy popcorn during the showing. It's hard to believe how fast an entire quarter of school has gone by already and we are looking forward to celebrating with all the students!

As in past years, we are collecting Box Tops for Education, Econo receipts, Milk Moola caps and bag tops (complete) from Kwik Trip, and Our Family UPC symbols. If your student(s) bring in a lunch bag full of any combination of the above, their name(s) get put into a drawing that will happen in December. Please write the name(s) of the student(s) and grade level on the bag.

Cold Weather is ComingWe care about your children and want them to be happy and comfortable playing outside every day during their 25 minute lunch recess and at their 15 minute morning or afternoon recess. As we know, Wisconsin weather can change very quickly, and as the temperature has dropped, we have many children without the proper clothing for cold weather. Please be sure that your child comes to school with a jacket, hat, earmuffs, or headband, gloves or mittens, and perhaps even a scarf or boots. When the snow starts to fly, they will also need snow pants if they wish to play in the snow. Most importantly, please label everything! We all forget things lying around here and there, but as you can see from the picture of our lost and found, there are lots of items without any way to identify the owner. Thank you so much for your help!
|
Lost and FoundOur Lost and Found area is already completely full. If your child is missing anything at all, please come on in and take a look to see if any of these items belong to them. Taking a look during Parent/Teacher Conferences would also be a great option if you can't make it in before then.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
We sincerely hope that the new drop off and pick up procedures are working well for everyone. Out of courtesy for other drivers, if you are dropping off in the parking lot, please be sure to pull all the way forward so that other cars can follow behind you and allow their child out of their vehicles.
In regards to the end of the day procedures, please help us to remind students that bikes are not to be ridden until the students are off of school grounds, this includes until they are through the crosswalks.
Also, parents and children alike need to stay away from the buses by not crossing inside the yellow line on the sidewalk. Both of these are for the safety of our students and the drivers.

Parent/Teacher Conferences |
Book Fair |
Parent/Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. You will be seeing a sign-up sheet come home with your child shortly. Please fill these out at your earliest convenience and return them to school so that the conferences can all be scheduled.
If you would like to provide any treats for the staff on the night of Thursday, November 8th, they would certainly appreciate it. Please e-mail Associate Principal, Vanessa Moran, at [email protected] if this is something that you would like to assist with. The teachers do so much every single day for their students, and this is a great way to show our appreciation for their efforts. |
The fall Book Fair will be held in the Longfellow IMC from November 5-9. It will be open during Parent/Teacher conferences on Thursday, November 8th from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday, November 9th from 8 a.m. until noon. Here is a link to a preview video for the Book Fair that that will be shown in library classes: Follett Book Fair

The Trucker Way Minute
At our school we follow a program that is used in many schools throughout Wisconsin and other states called PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). We affectionately refer to it as "The Trucker Way", the way we expect ALL of our students to behave. We have 3 basic school wide behavioral rules: be safe, be respectful, be responsible. These rules are stated in a POSITIVE manner instead of telling the students what NOT TO DO. Each grade-level has the same rules for bus, cafeteria, restroom, playground and classroom. If you look closely, you will see these rules posted through out the school. This way it is easier for students to know what is expected them.
Many classrooms are using ClassDojo in conjunction with PBIS, which is a communication app used to share reports between parents and teachers about a plethora of classrooms happenings, including behavior. If you child's teacher contacts you about any such issues, your support at home is very much appreciated. |
News from Trucker U
To those that are new to our school or have not participated in the past, Trucker U is our after school program at Longfellow Elementary. It runs Monday-Thursday from 3:05-4:45. Students receive a snack and have a recess before breaking out by grade levels to enjoy enrichment activities. This year we are offering a jump rope class as well on Wednesday nights for second-fourth graders called "Grasshoppers". Students can attend Trucker U each night if they'd like or only certain nights. We also have busing to certain drop-off locations in Clintonville, Bear Creek, and also Embarrass. For more information call or stop in the office at Longfellow.

P.E. Happenings
During the first few weeks of school students learned and practiced classroom procedures, instant activities and expectations. Hopefully the time spent on those will maximize our teaching and learning time throughout the year.
If you ever have any questions regarding your child in Physical Education, the best way to contact Mrs. Petermann is via at [email protected]. She also created a terrific website that outlines everything happening in PE, so please take a moment to check it out. On the left hand side of the page, you will also find links to the monthly newsletter, which you can see a thumbnail image of here. Your child came home with a paper copy of this newsletter earlier this month. There is a plethora of great information contained there so please take a moment to check it out if you haven't already. |
